Zihuatanejo
is a word that finds its origin in the Purepecha culture and means "Place
governed by women". Our home state, Guerrero, was catapulted to
worldwide fame many years ago, when the international jet set chose
Acapulco as a "secret" getaway. You may also have heard of
Taxco, called the "silver city" because of the mines and exquisite
jewelry that comes from this ancient mountain village. Our neighbor
state to the north and east, Michoacan, is not only very beautiful;
it also hosts some of the most talented artisans of the nation. And
then, of course, there is Oaxaca in the south of Guerrero, where the
great Zapoteca and Mixteca Indian cultures have prospered in spite of
modern time's influence. It's an overnight excursion, if you want to
visit these and some other spectacular places.
